BCRA Board of Director's May Meeting Minutes

Bay Cities Racing Association
Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting of May 11, 2010
Held at Las Nachos Restaurant in Tracy, California

President Rick Holbrook called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Board members in attendance were Rick Holbrook, Joe Lindsey, Rick Soto, Lonnie Lopez, David Prickett and Bob Roza; also in attendance and introduced at his first meeting as a Board of Director member was Paul Ferreira. In addition, present were ASCS Director, Rick Young, Shasta Raceway Park CEO, Rick Faeth, and BCRA's Office Manager, Linda Manning. Other guests present were Vintage coordinator June Ferreira, respected car owner Russ Prickett, and BCRA's Marketing Director Robert Haugh.

Since the Board was again fully represented, the normal business agenda followed; first, the minutes of the previous meeting of April 13, 2010 were briefly reviewed, then Joe Lindsey made a motion to approve the minutes which was seconded by David Prickett. The motion was unanimously approved by a voice vote. Next, the financial reports through the end of April 2010, which had been emailed to board members, were reviewed. Joe Lindsey made a motion to approve the financials, which was seconded by Rick Soto, and the motion was also approved by voice vote.

New Business:

The first item brought to the Board's attention was the annual Hall of Fame picnic scheduled for August 7 at Placerville Speedway. What makes this years picnic especially challenging is that is follows a Friday night Midget race at Chico. In addition, the raffle at the picnic is one of BCRA's Benevolent Fund's major fundraisers so all BCRA members, including Board members are asked to seek out and donate raffle prizes. Linda also remined all in attendance that they were expected to attend and work at the picnic. The next item brought up by Russ Prickett was a question about marked tires at pavement races. After some discussion about the intent of the rule, it was agreed that a minor clarification of the rule will be made in that any previously marked RR tire could be used at any time in the future, and that only one new tire will be marked at each pavement race. Another subject mentioned was the “California Midget Clash” at Chowchilla, which is still being put together for October 9th at Chowchilla Speedway. All were asked to save the date, and further information will follow.

Next, there was considerable discussion about the recent pavement race at Madera in which only 5 midgets showed. The program was good, according to those attending, and Midget Board members agreed to telephone all midget owners to ask several question ... get input, and encourage those owners to attend the next 3 in a row pavement races which are scheduled for July 3 at Shasta, July 17 at Madera, and July 24 at Lakeport. As an incentive to get more cars out, Shasta Raceway promoter Rick Faeth has agreed to a discount the Back Gate Pass to $100 for 3 pit passes, and he will also donate 5 gallons of fuel to every Midget car entered. Also, ASCS Director Rick Young is posting a $600 bonus for the two day point totals for ASCS cars racing at Shasta on Saturday 7/3 and Sunday at Silver Dollar Speedway on 7/4. The top three point earners will earn $300, $200, and $100. The consensus of the Board was to stay the course with regards to rules because it is the right thing to do.

Next, Under committee Reports, BCRA Marketing Director Robert Haugh reported on a second colorful picture in National Speed Sports News, (NSSN). Robert also gave a report on the progress of website activity and of the links being made to the website, and of links to BCRA from other websites. Robert reported that the agreement with International Hotels is now on the website Homepage and the April Newsletter is out and should be on the website anytime. Linda Manning reminded all that the paper version of the Newsletter is out and any member not receiving one, and wished to be on the mailing list, should call her at the BCRA number of 209-830-9928 and request that they be added to the Newsletter mailing list. President Holbrook again thanked Robert for his continual hard work in getting publicity and website improvements. Holbrook also thanked Linda and Joe, along with webmaster, Dennis Daniel for the improvements to the website, and to Robert for his continuous information on Facebook, twitter, and other links to publicize BCRA and our activities. Linda reminded all Board members and members that the BCRA 2010 schedule cards are out and available to all members and we all should carry some to hand out anywhere we go. She also reminded all that the Lite and Midget tee shirts are done and are for sale at $15 each.

Under Division Reports: Rick Holbrook gave a report on the recent Midget-Lite races where car count continues to be a challenge with the average being around 12-14 cars per race. It was mentioned that the Midget Lite race of May15 at Chowchilla will be during their County Fair and a big crowd is expected, so the Lite Board members will be on the phone encouraging car owners to get to the track and build car count. Next, the Midget report brought out discussion about our BCRA rules on starts and restarts vs. track rules. Linda stated she would talk with one of our favorite promoters and determine if we could follow our own rules at this track. More to follow on this subject at next months meeting. And no BCRA meeting would be complete without a discussion about the beautiful sound of a Midget....or as others put it...NOISE...So, again BCRA will have a sound meter at Marysville and we all know that there is a state limit of not to exceed 95 decibles at 100 feet, so it is up to the owners to get their cars under the limit.

Next, Paul Ferreira (and June) gave their first ever report on the Vintage Division. They stated they expect about 14-15 at their next event which is the annual Vintage gathering at the immaculate and friendly Shasta Raceway Park, scheduled for May 29 & 30. They are giddy with excitement and anticipation bout this annual event. There was also discussion about a conflict in dates at a future event.

With most of the Board tired, and full of tasty Mexican food, David Prickett made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:24 PM. Joe seconded the motion, and the President declared the meeting adjourned.
