May 2006
Mother Nature has finely got her act together so we can get the
racing season started. Our first date that we actually made without any weather
problem was Twin Cities Speedway in Marysville on May 6th. The Vintage car field
was smaller than expected but we were well received and everyone had a good
time. Six vintage cars made the trip. Frank & Kay Goularte , Mike Luddon and
Alison, Paul & June Ferreira, Stu and Mike Donaldson, Rosemarie and me. Eric and
Gerri came down from Oregon to help with the pushing the vintage cars. Eric had
just bought a new toy that worked great pushing us into the push off area. Eric
saw an ad in the local shopper for this new open wheel two seater sorta dune
buggy. The interesting thing is that is has no Brand name so no one had a clue
what to call it. So we referred to it as the "Doodle Bug".
Stu brought a new BCRA Vintage member Scott Nail and his wife from Visalia and
Scott piloted the # 85 vintage car for Stu. Stu has offered a ride to Scott in
Stu’s #87 dirt midget for the 2006 season. Stu and Scott made it to
Watsonville’s "Ocean Speedway" for the BCRA midget date on May 12th. Bad luck
struck Stu at Ocean Speedway and the motor went sour. Scott has plenty of seat
time in several types of open wheel cars so they will make a good team.
Bad luck struck Mike Luddon with a broken motor mount after the second time on
the track. That was the end of the night for Mike. The rest of us stuck it out
for the rest of the night. Due to several red flags and the night was getting
late the vintage members decided to pass on our last time on the track. The show
director was grateful for our help We will make it up some other time. Greg, the
promoter, allowed four of us with RV’S to spend the night at the track. We were
all up and headed for IHOP in Marysville for breakfast by 8:00 A.M. Sunday
morning.
The next scheduled date is the "Karz for Kidz" in Madera California at the
Valley Children’s Hospital grounds. Last year it was great success and they were
able to raise over $11,500 for the hospital and the children. This car show is
open to anyone that can make it.
Our next BCRA Vintage date is June 3rd. At Lakeport Speedway in Lakeport
California. The pit gates open at 3:00 P.M. Eric and Gerri said they plan to
make that date. We told Eric that he would be a big help pushing again with his
"Doodle Bug".
We still have the new BCRA Vintage uniform patch and the BCRA Vintage Midget and
the Mighty Midget license plate frames for sale. The 2006 Vintage Calendar is
also available. Email me at petebcra1@sbcglobal.net and I will get the items in
the mail ASAP.
Let me know if you are NOT receiving the BCRA Newsletter each month as I have
extras each month. I will send the issue that you are missing.
See you at Lakeport on June 3rd.
