We had 12 Vintage cars make the show at the Madera Speedway’s “Harvest Classic” race on September 18th. Thirty BCRA/USAC midgets and 14 Ford Focus and 18 Super modified cars put on a great night of open wheel racing for a big crowd of local race fans.
The Vintage cars were given two times on the track to show the race fans the comparison between the midgets of the past and today’s modern midgets. All of the BCRA Vintage members had a great night. Stu Donaldson hired a Mystery driver for the night. After we made him remove his helmet it was discovered to be Rick Holbrook from the BCRA Board of Directors and a Midget-Lite division racer.

After the three classes had finished their qualifying almost all racecars that were there for the nights races were brought out to the front straight away and the race fans were invited to come down from the stands and see the racecars up close. The drivers signed autographs and several of the young race fans were allowed to sit in the cars and take pictures. After the autograph session was over Rick Gerhardt allowed BCRA to present a Memorial Lap for the late Bill King. Floyd Alvis and I were pleased to have this opportunity to remember Bill for all the help he provided to almost every BCRA member over the past several years. The members of BCRA Vintage wish to thank Rick and Lynn Gerhardt and their staff for inviting the vintage members to be a part of the nights racing program.
