By Linda Manning

Bay Cities Racing Association, Washington Midget Racing Association and the Idaho Midget Racing Association ran race 1 of 3 of the Pacific Northwest Midget Championship Series on Saturday May 14, 2005 at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka CA. With 26 midgets signed in from 3 different states and British Columbia. The stage was set for a great evening of racing, with Washington’s Spence Gatrell posting fast time of 14.995

All 26 cars started the 35 lap main event with Washington’s Scott Walker on the pole in his Stealth Gaerte/Ford powered midget, along side of Scott was Idaho’s Steve Spoor making up the front row. With the drop of the green flag Walker jumped out into the lead holding off S. Spoor and Brian Gard for 17 laps until Eric Mostin spun in turn 4 bringing out the second of 3 yellow flags. The first yellow came when K. Ferris lost power coming to a stop on the infield. With the race resuming Walker still held off Gard, and the every quick Thomas Meseraull moving up from his 12th starting position to now take over 3rd position from Spoor. Walker continued to hold off now 2nd place Meseraull until lap 19 when the final yellow came out when Skeeter Flake lost his brakes and coasted to a stop on the back straight away. With Meseraull in 2nd place Walker continued to hold the lead until lap 32 when he got trapped in slower traffic. Both Meseraull and Gard slipped by with Measurall in the lead and taking the checkered flag, followed by B. Gard, S. Walker, J. Sarale and G. Dennett rounding out the top 5.
Meseraull also took the “B” Dash with Chris Schmelzle winning the “A” dash.

Matt Stone won the first heat; Meseraull won the second heat with Brian Gard winning the third and final heat of the night.
