The Bay Cities Racing Association midget season is gearing up for the first of 20 racing programs. The opener is set for April 2 at the paved Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson. In addition to the BCRA regulars, a score of competitors from the Northwest's Washington Midget Racing Association have indicated their entries.
The season will be divided between dirt and pavement venues with nine on the dirt and 11 on pavement.
Among the season highlights will be the resumption of the Pacific Northwest Midget Championship Series, co-sanctioned with the WMRA. The series has been expanded to four events, two in BCRA territory and two in WMRA's domain. The Redwood Acres Raceway on Eureka will open the series on May 14. The series resumes on July 22-23 at the Meridian Speedway outside of Boise, Idaho, where the Idaho Midget Racing Association will join in the co-sanctioning. The final battle of the midget organizations will take place at the Shasta Raceway Park on September 24.
In addition to the two races each at Shasta and Meridian and one at Eureka, the pavement events include three races at the Lakeport Speedway on June 4, July 2 and August 6, plus the Champion Speedway in Carson City on May 28, the Harvest Classic at Madera on August 20 and on the half-mile at the Altamont Raceway Park on Labor Day, Monday, September 5.
The midgets will be visiting four different dirt ovals
throughout the season. The first, middle and last dirt shows will be at the
Santa Maria Speedway on April 30, June 11 and the season-ending "3rd Annual
Johnny Baldwin Classic" on October 1. The
Reno-Fernley Raceway 3/8-mile will be raced twice, May 7 and August 27. The
Twin Cities Speedway in Marysville hosts the midgets on June 25 and July 30.
After a long hiatus, the midgets return to the Sacramento Raceway on Friday,
May 20, plus Antioch Speedway on July 7.
Several new cars and drivers are expected along with the BCRA regulars in BCRA's 67th season of midget auto racing.
BCRA's midget lite and vintage divisions will also be
campaigning extensively throughout Northern California and the Reno
area of Nevada.
