Greg Bragg of Visalia, CA won his 3rd consecutive BCRA Midget race at the revamped Marysville ¼ mile dirt track in the Dave & Wendy Thurston Spike/Esslinger #11 Midget.
The evening started out with 9 cars lined up for the 8 lap heat race. Dan Parker and Floyd Alvis were front row starters. At the green Parker took the lead over Alvis, followed by Pete Davis, and Greg Bragg. In his first Midget start, Taylor Simas followed in his Spike powered Esslinger.
Rob Lindsey, all the way from Wilsonville, OR was a non-starter in his Ellis with mechanical gremlins. Parker continued his lead until being challenged by a fast Pete Davis who made a daring outside pass in turn 1, on a rough track. Davis went on to win the heat in convincing fashion over Parker, Alvis, Bragg, and Simas.
The Main Event had a 6 inversion with Rick Holbrook on the pole, and Simas on the outside. Simas took the initial lead over Holbrook, Parker, and Bragg. As the race continued, cars were bouncing around on the challenging track and Bragg in his usual style, became faster and faster and took the lead on lap 7, followed by Simas and Davis, who were staging a fierce battle for the second position. Finally, as Bragg drove into a different time zone, Davis was able to clear himself of Simas and quickly opened a gap between himself and Simas, In 4th , but hanging on to an ill handling car was Parker. On lap 19 of the 25 lap main, Bill Lindsey and Alvis passed Parker in turn two, while he was regaining control of his car; at the same time, the leaders continued a frantic pace over the Marysville track.
At the checkered, Bragg took the win over Davis, Simas, Lindsey, Alvis, Parker, Holbrook, and everyone’s favorite, JR Williams.
